I kept hearing how easy it was to make your own ringtones. Even without installing third party software I was supposed to enter a mystical realm of jingles and jangles to my heart's content.
Wrong.
At least for the enV, that is. No amount of Googling or cajoling of Verizon Employees yielded results. Employees insisted the only way was for me to buy ringtones from them or their partners at $3.00 a pop. Yes, they admitted, there was third party software out there but it didn't work for the enV and the third party software seemed to agree. When really pressed, some employees would grudgingly admit that, yes, there was a way to get free ringtones but they couldn't tell me it. In summation: if I had some shitty free phone I could use this feature. Have a halfway decent phone and you're fucked.
Finally stumbled on the solution stupidly this weekend.
1. Locate the sound you want
2. Make sure the clip is in .WAV format, < 3MB and sampled < 22050 Hz
3. Log in to VerizonWireless.com
4. Proceed as if sending yourself a picture message
5. Upload the audio clip
6. Drag the audio clip to the center of the message form. (This may require a restart of Firefox which doesn't care for the site sometimes)
7. Send
8. When you receive the message select Options -> Save as Ringtone
Pretty simple. Which makes me feel stupid. But I don't send messages via the Web site so there's that.
And it makes me doubly irritated with the employees.
Anyway, it was a weekend of discoveries. Quicktime Pro can convert the phone's 3G2 video format and I can use Premiere Pro to edit those videos. Conversely, I can convert
